Wellness Propaganda I'm Not Falling For
Because not everything that's pastel deserves a place on the shelf...
Because I care, I have to say this: not all wellness is worth your energy.
After nearly a decade building Love Wellness—now available in major retailers like Target and Walmart—I’ve had a unique backstage pass to the wellness industry. I’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and what’s just marketing dressed up in magnesium and millennial pink.
And listen—I’ve contributed to the pastelification of wellness. Guilty. But our intentions have always been clear: to destigmatize the taboo and embarrassing parts of women’s health, and bring a little levity (and better design) to things like UTIs, yeast infections, and pH issues.
I care deeply about this space. I care about you.
And that’s exactly why I think we need to talk about what’s actually supportive—and what’s just noise. Please don’t be mad at me if you love any of what’s listed below. SORRY!
Here are 10 things I’m not falling for right now:
1. Mouth Tape
I understand the nasal breathing movement. I even respect it. But I draw the line at taping my mouth shut to get a gold star from tiktok influencers.
If you’re hormonal, congested, pregnant, stressed, or just not into bedtime bondage, this might not be your path. Sleep is a delicate ecosystem, not a dare.
2. Oat Milk (Or Any Plant-Based Milk That’s Basically Sugar Water)
I’ve never subscribed to the oat milk agenda. It tastes weird. It’s gross. And in most cases, it’s barely food.
Most trendy alt-milks are emulsified blends of seed oils, gums, sweeteners, and a handful of oats or almonds for marketing purposes. And even if they’re a “cleaner” version? They still taste like melted cardboard and spike your blood sugar for fun.
You know what is satisfying? Full-fat dairy. It’s creamy, nutrient-dense, and contains naturally occurring fat and protein that actually helps keep you full and your blood sugar stable. In a world of wellness overkill, I vote for pleasure and function.
3. Wearable Tech
The moment my smart ring told me I was “under-recovered” after 8 hours of sleep and a gentle day, I knew we were done.
There’s a difference between data and wisdom. I don’t need a device telling me how I feel—I need to listen to my actual body, in real time, without a dashboard. If tech helps you tune in, great. If it makes you neurotic and stressed out (like moi), maybe it’s time to unplug.
4. IV Drips
Unless you’re on day two of a Vegas bachelorette or being discharged from Cedars, I’m not convinced IV drips are necessary. They’re flashy. They’re expensive. And they often offer little more than the placebo effect of “doing something.”
Hydration should not require a needle unless you’re actively dying. Water, minerals, food, rest. Repeat.
5. Gummy Vitamins
I want to like them. I really do. But gummy vitamins are candy in a lab coat. They’re packed with sugar, often under-dosed, and more about aesthetics than efficacy. I’ve worked in the industry for 10 years. I am not lying to you about this. I’m so sorry!
If I’m going to supplement, I want real nutrients in a form that works (capsule, tincture, etc). We take a firm stand against gummies at Love Wellness because we believe your health should come first, not our bottom line.
6. Fragranced Intimate Care
I cannot stress this enough: your vulva is not supposed to smell like roses. It definitely doesn’t need artificial fragrance.
Fragrance in intimate care is a leading cause of microbiome disruption, pH imbalance, and recurring infections. You need gentle support—not lavender-scented shame.
That’s why I stand behind our Love Wellness pH-Balanced Cleanser. It’s clinically-tested (100% of study participants reported no disruption to pH with daily use), OB/GYN-developed, fragrance-free, and designed to support your microbiome, not mess with it. Because you deserve better than products that prioritize scent over science.
7. SPF Above 50
It feels powerful, right? Like wearing armor? But the truth is, SPF 50 already blocks 98% of UVB rays. Anything above that gives you marginally more coverage and often comes with heavier, more irritating formulas.
The real move? Apply SPF 30–50 consistently and reapply. Sunscreen is a habit, not a flex.
8. Forty Dollar Fitness Classes
I love a workout. I love endorphins. But I don’t love doing financial math mid-burpee.
Wellness shouldn’t bankrupt you. Walks are free. So is sunlight. So is a good playlist and a little motivation. You don’t need designer leggings and $40 sessions to be strong. You just need consistency and a little grace.
9. Thinking Protein is a Trend
This one’s personal. Prioritizing protein—real protein, in meaningful amounts—has genuinely changed my life. It’s helped stabilize my blood sugar, my energy, my weight, and even my mood.
But here’s the thing: it’s not the whole picture. Protein works best with other nutrients—not instead of them.
We still need carbs. We need fiber. We need healthy fats. The pendulum swinging from “no protein” to “only protein” isn’t helpful—it’s performative. Your plate should be a mix of what fuels you, not just what’s trending.
10. Counting My Steps
We really turned walking into a competitive sport. And I get it—movement is essential. But I don’t need to pace around my apartment at 11:59 p.m. to hit some arbitrary number.
Some days I walk a ton. Some days I barely move. That’s called life. And I refuse to let a number define my day or my worth. Movement should be intuitive, not gamified.
Final Thoughts
We are allowed to be wellness people with taste.
With boundaries. With critical thinking.
We are allowed to say, “This isn’t for me,” even when it’s trending.
That doesn’t make you lazy. That makes you wise.
So tell me—what wellness things are you not falling for anymore? Drop them in the comments. Let’s de-influence a little, together.

Lo
What I’m “falling for” is what works for ME and taking in the information, doing my own research, and using what’s best for me and my health!!! ❤️❤️
Love my Oura ring in general (helped me realize what habits close to bed disrupted my sleep) but ditched it the minute it started to constantly remind me while pregnant that my readiness was low and my resilience “limited.” I just grew a human! I am resilient! 😂
